The Discipline and Division of Gynecology Clinic has three pillars of action and activity, Teaching , Assistance and Research .

The education covers the Undergraduate area of the Faculty of Medicine, the University Extension, covering the Medical Residency Program, Observer Doctors Program and isolated short-term lato sensu university extension courses (events, days, training courses and congresses). It also has an extensive Postgraduate Program, with Master's and Doctoral levels (see specific area).

The search has an intrinsic relationship with all areas of the Discipline and Clinic, in its daily activities, mainly Assistance and through specific Commissions that take care from the evaluation of projects, promotion, bioethical and ethical aspects, in their execution and monitoring. This activity is carried out  within the scope of the Clinic and also of the larger Institutions as a whole (Faculty and Hospital). In addition, the Gynecology Department maintains one of the Medical Research Laboratories (LIM-59), which as a whole, distributed among the various clinics and disciplines,  brings together a very large and select potential of resources biotechnological and human material, consortium and shared use, leveraging research that, otherwise, would have great difficulty in its isolated execution, without considering the waste of resources in the duplication of equipment and processes.

Assistance is an inherent and final activity of medical activity, notably in a teaching and research environment.
